Every time Torres drops a new song, it is a day of celebration in this household at least.
Cowboy guilt, the third song to be shared from her upcoming album Sprinters (less than 2 weeks to go!), is big, playful and fun in a way that's reminiscent of St Vincent.
If anything could have made me more excited than I already was for Sprinters, it is this.
Laura's music is pop, in the same way that Florence + the machine and Kate Bush before her are, down to the way she uses her beautifully heavy voice.
Is it perverse that a song with such dark subject matter ("I'm running from a world of sadness, I'm running from a world of greed") me stupid-dance happy? Maybe a god bit of synth-pop can make anything feel-good?
Sometimes I can't be arsed with keeping up with the latest & greatest, instead finding comfort in music I missed a few years back. Julianna Barwick'sthe magic place is one such nook in the music-sphere.
This 2011 release is astonishingly upbeat when you consider her 2013 nepenthe (also a must-listen). For me, the standout track is far and away prizewinning, the way Julianna moulds the instrumental and lyric-less vocal elements is indeed prizewinning.
Come, join me in 2011. (I just did some maths; 2011, 2013... can we expect a new JB release in 2015?!)
