Florence + the machine - St Jude

At the risk of being melodramatic, I don't know if I can take all the emotions that Florence is giving me right now. Am I alone or does all of her new material make you want to runaway to her video locations and commence the adventure of your life?

In summary: no harps, lots of humming, a backing chorus, lyrics about trying to find meaning in life, a titillating none-climax that leaves you wanting more.

I love this woman, but I fear that how big, how blue, how beautiful will ruin me.

Paris suit yourself - What must I say

Roboboogiewoogie favourites Paris suit yourself have just released the first track from their yet unnamed upcoming EP (could it finally be Blackberries?)

As with some of the music we've seen come out of PSY's camp over the last 12 months, this is more cool electro than the bombastic orgy of sounds, shouts and beats on their debut album. Here, instead of every element going for it, the body-moving beats have been delegated to the electro beats.

What must I say has featured on the bands website, but listening to it in full is an absolute, heady pleasure.

Twin shadow - Eclipse

Twin shadow's 3rd album is here! Eclipse opens with the triumphant flatliners, featuring piano chords and some A* 90s guitar action.

A lot of the tracks on Eclipse will be familiar to die hard TS fans (hi, you're cool). Of the newcomers, it's obvious why eclipse was selected as the title track, it's short, sweet and addictive with the 90s pop vibes that Twin shadow has adopted as his own over the past 5 years

Parts of the album (see I'm ready) have strong 90s boyband vibes, if that's not your thing, they can be forgiven for bangers like to the top and turn me up

iamamwhoiami - Blue

iamamwhoiami is like that kid who's friends with all your friends, constantly brought up in conversation, always there; but you've never been introduced, so you look upon with awkward suspicion. 6 months after the release of Blue, iamamwhoiami's 3rd album, I've finally introduced myself.

iamamwhoiami has been compared to Bjork (surely not every white, female, nordic, electronic artist sounds like Bjork). But parts of this album remind me of Bat for lashes, especially the electronic moments in two suns

If you haven't already, go say hi, you won't regret it.

Warpaint - No way out / I'll start believing

Warpaint - female hard-folk quartet - released their latest single No way out last week, in a harder, angrier, progression from 2014's eponymous album.

While no way out has had outings at gigs for almost a year, it's the b-side I'll start believing that is really the new material here. It's tribal, almost childlike shouting is very Warpaint, and it's fast tempo makes it irresistibly danceable.

2 songs are nice, but I'd really like a new album please Warpaint. Ok, thanks.

Devonté Hynes and Neneh Cherry - He she me

Are songs adverts now? I guess they are when they're bankrolled by "the man".

Ok, rant over. My penchant for gender-bending subject matter is no secret, and this collaboration for department store Selfridges is no different - perhaps due to their impeccable choice of artists: Devonté Hynes (of Blood orange fame) and Neneh Cherry.

I love the vocals, which are non-confrontational throughout, with the warp-y bass and undulating chimes. If you're a fan of either Devonté or Neneh, you will like this.

Active child - 1999

Active child aka Pat Grossi aka Brody from Homeland's sensitive, artsy twin brother has announced his new LP Mercy by dropping a track - 1999.

1999 features lyrics like "I think about you all the time. I wonder if when you think of me, you smile" and sits perfectly with Active child's signature melancholic joy.

The question remains: didn't they have harps in 1999? I need to feed my harp addiction!

Grimes - REALiTi

REALiTi is one of the remnants from Grimes' 4th album - now lost to the world after the destructive criticism of what was supposed to be the debut from the album, Go, last autumn.

This track is beautiful but, by Grimes' standards, subdued (especially if you consider Go's relentless energy, and the head banging in the video).

I love this, but I love all things Grimes. I really hope we will eventually get to hear more of the lost album.

SoKo - My dreams dictate my reality

SoKo reminds me of that line from Love actually where Emma Thompson says that Joni Mitchell taught her how to feel. Except SoKo taught me how to quirk. From accepting my food baby to being gross in viral youtube videos, SoKo has it covered

And now she's streaming her latest album, My dreams dictate my reality. Despite Ariel Pink's two appearances, this album is largely post-punk.

This, only her 2nd album is a fusion of her two sides: monster love & the title track are melancholic perfection, while ocean of tears & who wears pants are more lighthearted.

Novella - Land gone

Novella's land gone is a bit throwback in its style, composition and vocals. It feels somehow 90s with its airy female vocals and fast guitar riffs; it's almost witchy in its girl-power-ness (I guess it's somehow echoed in the video).

This track isn't gripping as much as it is comforting, it's something you'll put on repeat just to have it play in the background of your life.
